Ernesto Laclau(1935-)and Chantal Mouffe(1943-) are the leaders ofcontemporary "post-Marxist", are the beginners of the rise of western post-Marxismpolitical thought. As other post-Marxists, Laclau and Murphy tried to exceed Marxistfrom the overall theoretical discourse, through the deconstruction and reconstructionof Marxist with multiple radical democracies. Its outstanding characteristic was toemphasize the importance of words and the occasionality of historical development ofthe world, trying to deconstruct Marxist on the basis of post-modernity. The multipleradical democratic theory and freedom and national theory constructed by Laclau andMouffe represented the ideological trend of the None-Marxist or the anti-Marxist inthe ideological trend of NeoMarxism of the western developed capitalist countries, which was historical materialism with postmodern pluralism to deny Marxism inphilosophy method; which was class politics with radical democracy of politicalpluralism to instead of Marxism in theory; abandoned socialist value concept and thestrategic target, and produced adverse effects during the practice of socialistmovement. As its capitalist criticism is limited in actual strength and impact, it cannotbe attained the historical height and theoretical depth of the Marxist criticism ofcapitalism. It can neither form the fundamental threat to capitalism nor search theright way against capitalism of the western revolution. So it is that it gave up westernrealizing socialist goal in western and Marx’s world revolution ideal. It cannot bedenied that Laclau and Mouffe’s multiple radical democratic theory provided a newtheory perspective and choice to western left-wing radical political. It left an impacton the development of the theory of social movement, and had a certain criticalsignificance for contemporary capitalism. It had certain positive significance to thecritical analysis which was to the freedom that was the main stream in the academiccircles in the west and the state theory, tried to break the contemporary westerndominant ideas and values, and to answer the theoretical problems which had troubled western ideological circle from a new point of view, which revealed thetension between the theory and reality. This was what we should make sure and wasworth using for reference.
