Androgyny is not a new field, which has been discussed by many people. Althoughit is very harmonious status between males and females, this theory is given up at last. The reason is that many feminists believe that androgyny doesn’t exist in reality. Intheir opinions, men and women are two independent individuals and they cannot getwell with each other because they are not equal. Women are oppressed by men all thetime. As a matter of fact, androgynous quality exists in each person, although most ofpeople don’t realize it. Each person has masculinity and femininity quality at the sametime. If we begin to explore our androgynous traits, we can understand the other halfof ourselves easily. In this thesis, there are five parts in which we will discuss the theory of androgynyfully. In chapter one, I conclude the present state of androgyny theory. It is wellknown that androgynous phenomenon is everywhere and many scholars havedeveloped this theory a lot.In chapter two, three and four, I will study the androgynous characters in the threenovels. The protagonists of these novels obviously have androgynous qualities. Theyattract and torture each other. During this period, their androgynous traits are totallyexposed. In chapter five, I will give the conclusion about the theory of androgyny and theanalysis of the three novels. At the same time, I want to show the far-reachingsignificance of androgyny theory.
