Within all the different methods to measure implicit self-esteem, ImplicitAssociation Test (IAT) has turned out to be the most widely used implicitmeasurement technique, but this does not mean that IAT is perfect. The latestresearches show that there still exist the following problems in IAT: IAT-effectmight be mainly driven by attitudes toward concept labels rather than attitudestowards stimulus word; IAT-effect might be overestimated due to theincremental validity of non-target concept words; each stimulus word must beexclusively classifable into one of the four category concepts. Any overlap ofsemantic representation across the target and attribute concepts is very likely to biasIAT-effects.Against the above deficiencies of IAT in measuring implicit self-esteem, thispaper used a new a new variant of the IAT, the single category implicit associationtest (SC-IAT), which shows strong evidence for validity and reliability as anotherimplicit measure of social cognition, to carry out the follow three empirical studies. Apersonalized SC-IAT program of implicit self-esteem was developed in the first study, then it was tested on110under graduate students in order to validate thedouble-dimensional structure of self-esteem in which implicit self-esteem coexistswith the explicit self-esteem independently. The second study further explored the roleof this double-dimensional structure of self-esteem in individuals’ emotionalwell-being and life satisfaction. The third study established five differentfeedback situations in order to examine the different characteristics of thedouble-dimensionalstructure’s components. From the above study, this paper draw the following conclusions: The effectof implicit self-esteem was significant and the single category implicit association test is valid; The double-dimensional structure of self-esteem was better than thesingle-dimensional structure; The level of implicit self-esteem mediated therelationship between implicit self-esteem and emotional well-being; The levelof explicit self-esteem mediated the relationship between implicit self-esteem andemotional well-being; The explicit self-esteem had a protective effect onimplicit self-esteem; There was implicit self-esteem compensation when thesubjects were tested under high-pressure-failure feedback.
