| The1920s was a peaceful period between the two World Wars. The World War â… gave rise to various roles on the world stage. It was also the World War â… that taught them a lesson not only to engrave the war on their mind, but also to make great efforts to create peace. For the British Empire which was the world hegemon and the Soviet power emerging on the world stage, the confrontation on the early stage of the postwar period was the main stream. However, the two countries soon began trying to get closed because of their difficulties. Economic cooperation was a significant point revealing the development of the relationship between the two countries.This thesis takes the resumption of the Anglo-Soviet economic relation as the starting point. From the stable relation to the low point and then to the resumption, the development process is unraveled. The characteristics of and reasons for the Anglo-Soviet economic relation at each stage are also analyzed. This thesis selects the economic relation as its research objective for the purpose of finding another access to a more comprehensive understanding of the Anglo-Soviet relation in the1920s apart from the political factor. Meanwhile, it aims to study the interactive relations between politics and economy. Generally speaking, good political relations will stimulate the development of economic relations, otherwise, the reverse. However, in the face of the contest between traditional political thought and the real interests, Britain and the Soviet union unanimously chose to pursuit realistic interests, even when the bilateral political relations become cold and rupture, they still trying to maintain economic relations, and finally economic interests have become the reason to adjust the relationship between the two sides. And the behavior of the parties choose to pursue the real interests, also had a profound impact on the evolution of the concept of war and peace. |
