At the international stage of1920s, Britain was a representer for the traditional capitalist countries while Soviet Union was a new-born socialist political power. At that time, there was no precedent for them to follow about how to get along with each other. During the important historical period of1924-1929, the bilateral relationship developed tortuously with many trials after the initial confrontation. Soviet Union and Britain were still opposite even they had established diplomatic relations, maintaining peaceful coexistence seemingly. The intent of the Soviet Union was to take the United Kingdom as a breakthrough in Western countries to export its political and economical ideas. The latter intended to get rid off the political influence of Soviet Union by breaking off relations with it, but had to rebuild the diplomatic relationship with Soviet Union as soon as finding it’s impossible to isolate with it on economy.Britain played a leading role between the two during this period, while Soviet Union was the catering side as the result of unbalanced political status and economic power. The bilateral relationship struggled and wandered given the ideological differences and material interest. When Britain cooperated with Soviet Union, it could not get rid off the anti-communist mood. On the other hand, when trying to build up the normal diplomatic relations with Britain, Soviet Union also didn’t quit promoting communist. In a word, both of them carried out antinomy standard, which is an important cause for the frictions and the unstable situation between the two states in1920s.Today, with the quickly development of the globalization, the competition between states has been more complex than before and "positive sum game" become their consensus. Only by mutual respect and non-interference can they reach the true mutual benefit and win-win coexistence.
