Female Narration And Identity Construction

Since1949, female literature has achieved remarkable results in the past60years. Female consciousness occupies an important position in the female literary criticism. It is not only a significant part of the feminism, but also the determining factor of feminism developing depth. Therefore, research and study on the female consciousness is of profound meaning and value. Based on feminist theory, through textual analysis, this paper has an overall grasp of the evolution of female literature and female discourse since1949. Taking alternation process of female consciousness as a clue, it divides the female literature into three stages.The first stage is gender fading and assimilation. In "17Years", it seems that female narration appears to be broken down. But it doesn’t mean that female consciousness is disappearing away. On the contrary, in the culture of rights, female consciousness and female discourse are struggling to survive in the cracks of the mainstream discourse, from hidden breeding gradually to the newly-born bud.The second stage is Gender highlighting. After the end of the "Cultural Revolution", the enormous social and political changes led to the transformation of cultural movement and literary practice, and female literature has ushered in a new developing space. From the late1970s to early1990s, female consciousness completed its difficult journey from the revival to development. Taking the year of1985as the boundary, female consciousness in earlier female literature is of certain feminist color. However, female personal emotional experience is still classified into the patriarchal discourse system. After the year of1985, the core of feminist consciousness shifts to the female subjectivity, and desire blank and discourse loss of female literary may be filled. Female narration breaks away from the enlightening narration, and female discourse has began to take shape.The third stage is personalized female writing. After1990s, female literature rapidly developed. Personalized female writing has become the mainstream of female literature. There was a strong awakening of female consciousness. Desire narration has reached its peak. And female discourse system was gradually mature. Female literature has embarked on the history foreground from the edge position. After entering the new century, through continual process of self reflection, female literature has become reconciled with male literature. They attempt to create a writing pattern that surpasses the gender difference, hence to build a female discourse system which enjoys equality with male-dominated culture.
