HuiChongcontains poetic zen interesting picture does not only enrich the kei chan of the song dynasty face painting,and the simplified form of composition, birds and flowers and landscape of the fusion of local point, tolater scholars of the song dynasty especially painters and YuanNaWai paintings are produced directly orindirectly affect, also in song dynasty is the painting and even after other art door produced the potentialimpact.Keichan painting characterized by concise framing, poetic artistic conception had some influences onthe later painting, especially on the literati painting and the imperial-court decorative painting, andtherefore enriched the features of painting of that era.Huichong’s paintings had been popularized amongst literary intelligentsias of different generations,and became fashionable for a time during the Period of Shenzong in North Song when even manycounterfeits for his works once flooded.However, due to the slight influences of Keichan paintings on the whole style of painting of that time,described as “It sprung up rapidly and decayed in no time”, few painters after North Song learnt from it, soit ended in silence. This is because Chinese mountains-and-waters have ever been with the momentum ofthe strong as the priority in conception, which made him fail to gain his deserved position in the Chinesepainting history. What’s more, there was not enough documentation for Huichong accordingly notattracting enough concerns of the painting critics’ which caused people to be vaguely impressed upon him.In spite of those reasons, as a non-mainstream, Keichan painting opened a new artistic field of visualexperiences in the big family of mountains-and-waters with unique characteristics in form and contents andreflected distinct age artistic features.This dissertation has presented a throughout analysis on Keichan painting from various sides andangles by inspecting the literary documents and painting works. It lays stress on the characteristics of thecontents of Keichan painting with poetic concept and Chan interest. Also, a systematic analysis and a deepgoing research are available in the dissertation for probing into the reasons of the formation of Keichanpainting, the impacts on the aftertime and the historical significance of this kind of painting as well.
