Before the publication of the “Modern Chinese Dictionary”(5th edition), thestudy of examples of "Modern Chinese Dictionary” is mainly concentrated onsemantics." Modern Chinese Dictionary"(5th edition) labels the part of speech ofentries for the first time, causing widespread concern in examples on the aspect ofgrammar. The essay studies examples of subjective-predicate structure in dictionariesfrom the linguistic point of view. The body of this paper is divided into three parts. Parts I and II investigate theability of entries as subject and predicate, in order to determine the conformity of thepart of speech of examples and entry label, and the embodiment of grammaticalfunctions of labeled part of speech. Statistics of examples of the5th edition show thatexamples of the dictionary reflect the main grammatical functions of the entry ingeneral, and take into account of the entry of minor grammatical function as well. However, the verb with examples, at the same time, embodies secondary grammarability of subjects too much.Secondly, by comparing the statistics of examples of the " Modern ChineseDictionary"(5th edition) with that of "Modern Chinese Word Study”(edited by GuoRui), and speech constituents of the subject with that of the predicate, the author findthat both statistics diverse and share something and gives explanations of largedifferences.
