The Research On The Examples Of The Newly Produced Verbs In Modern Chinese Dictionary(the 6~th Edition)

The Modern Chinese Dictionary(hereinafter referred to as the “Contemporary Chinese”)is recognized as the country’s most authoritative book in modern Chinese dictionary tools; it is the requisite dictionary for native Chinese and second language learners in Chinese learning.Comparing with Contemporary Chinese(the fifth edition), more than 3000 new words were added into Contemporary Chinese(the sixth edition), it shows a comprehensive development and transformation in Chinese vocabulary system. Nevertheless, Chinese taught as a foreign language to still in a lagging position.This paper attempts to give a research to the examples of the new words which has the attribute of verbal(hereinafter referred to as “the newly produced verbs”) in Contemporary Chinese(the sixth edition), providing a comprehensive analysis of the quantities, the types and the grammatical information of the examples about the newly produced verbs. Meanwhile, the writer gives some suggestions on the issues of new words teaching in foreign Chinese teaching and hopes to make a contribution to improving Contemporary Chinese and the new words teaching in International Chinese. This paper contains six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction. it mainly summarizes the status of dictionary research.Meanwhile, it gives a introduction on research contents, research significance and research methods.The second chapter introduces the general situation about the examples of the newly produced verbs. Mainly investigates the quantities and the types of the examples. Meanwhile,it makes a summary of arrangement rules and the function of examples.The third chapter analyses the grammatical information about the examples of the newly produced verbs. It investigates the main grammatical function, minor grammatical function and the other grammatical functions. Simultaneously, it points out the non-correspondence between examples and paraphrases, the discrepancy between examples and the word class of an item.The fourth chapter investigates those newly produced verbs without examples. The writer gives an analysis on the reasons, also tries to add some suitable examples for some general verbs according to the CCL corpus of Peking University.The fifth chapter discusses on the International Chinese teaching. The writer mainly discusses the problems existing in new words. Meanwhile, according to the research of the examples of the newly produced verbs, the writer puts forward relevant suggestions on teaching.The sixth chapter is conclusion. The writer summarizes the general overview of examples of the newly produced verbs, shows the innovation of this paper and points out deficiencies.
