Currently, in Universities the multimedia teaching technology is widely used inEnglish Teaching, which characterizes the university English teaching and learningresources as diversification and weaken teacher’s authority. Compared with thetraditional English teaching mode, many problems in English teaching are more andmore outstanding. In multimedia teaching environment, in order to make theuniversity English Teaching save time and efficiently and healthily develop,University English teachers must actively encourage their role change and enrichconnotation of teacher’s role from all aspects. At the same time, teachers shouldcorrectly and reasonably adjust their teaching strategies to achieve the best teachingeffect. This is not only the essential requirement of the development of universityEnglish education but also the need of enriching and developing teacher’s role theory.This research is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, which introduces the research reason, purpose,significance, thinking and method as well as the related research review at home andabroad.The second part is an interpretation of the traditional teacher’s role. The authorexpounds the present situation of teacher’s role and specifically point out the commonsense of the college English teachers’ role.The third part mainly expounds the present situation and actual role of theuniversity English teacher.The fourth part is the research design, which contains two main cases. One isquestionnaire survey for teachers and students, and the other is the specific teachingcases. The two cases are to do further research on university English teachers’ roleunder the environment of multimedia.The fifth part is the conclusion. The research shows that the teacher plays“imparter” role good. The students hope the teacher plays " creator ","advocates"and "helper" most, not "monitor","designer" and " evaluator ". Among these roles, "creator","helper" and "participant" are not played enough in position. Therefore, it isvery important that the teacher plays his role correctly. To this, the author putsforward related suggestions. On the one hand, the teacher must have the fullconsciousness of the role and perfectly play each role in the classroom. On the otherhand, the teacher should try hard to become the research and reflective teacher, whichis in favor of enrich and develop the connotation of the teacher’s role.In general, under the multimedia teaching environment, teachers should updateand develop further its own roles, to make the class teaching full of life and get thebest teaching effect.
