The Comparative Study About Dragon Totem In The Relationship Between Vietnam And China

Dragon as the totem of China and Vietnam, have the meaning ofgood luck, prosperous, power, wealth, good weather for crops and someother good meanings for the people of the two countries. In the longhistory of several thousand years, the dragon totem had great effect forthe two countries in various fields such as culture and literature. In timeof feudal society, the dragon was used and promoted by the ruling class.It was regarded as a symbol of royal power, the shape of dragon directlyreflected the will of the ruling class. Therefore, the attitude of the rulingclass of the two countries and bilateral relations also had great impact onthe evolution of the dragon totem in the two countries. The authorfocused on this evolution, and analyze the changing of the dragon totemin the two countries with the history of the relationship between the twocountries in thousands years. The creative point of this paper is also thispoint.This thesis can be divided into five parts, the first part is theintroduction, the body of the thesis can be divided into four partsaccording to different periods. They are: prehistoric society period,counties period, the early vassal relationship period and late vassalrelationship period. The author analyze the origin, evolution, thesimilarities and differences as well as the changes of dragon totem inthese four periods. The conclusion is that: Sino-Vietnam relations hasgone through several different forms:the neighbor tribe-ruled-independent country. In the period of independence, Vietnam had gone though wars, ups and downs and development. Under theseinfluences, dragon totem of the two countries have also experienced adevelopment process of―different-the same-different–the same.‖The dragon totem has witnessed the growth of the two countries andtheir people. Thousands of years passed, the people of the two countrieshas gone though lots of difficulties. But we still share the same belief.Our spirit of dragon totem is still there. I believe, with the witness of ourtotem, the friendly relationship of China and Vietnam will continue.
