Brief Introduction To The Achievement And Historical Standing In Exegetics Of Ruoxu Wang

Ruoxu Wang is a famous scribes and philologist of Jin society. He took in not only the good tradition of "puxue", which belongs to the Confucianism of Han Dynasty, but also the new academic spirit of Song Dynasty, when explaining classics of ancient time. He was simplicity in scholarship and dared to distinguish doubt boldly, so he had achieved many harvest in studies of exegesis and made great impact to later ages.The author discuss the theory, contents and methods of exegetical studies used by Ruoxu Wang deeply in this paper, which takes 《Hunanyilao》as the main study materials, as well as sum up his achievements and historical contributions in traditional studies of exegesis. The author discusses the paper in four parts:Firstly, it is the introduction, which is composed of the significance and the value, the present research situation and the research method of this paper.Secondly, it focuses on the achievements of Ruoxu Wang in textual exegesis, which is from exegesis contents, exegesis theory and exegesis methods three aspects. His exegesis contents are comprehensive, vast and solid. The exegesis theory, he used, is pure knowledge and the exegesis methods, which adopt textual criticism and distinguish method, are various and with distinctive characteristics of The Times.Thirdly, it is the paper’s key point, which is from four aspects to discuss Ruoxu Wang’s stature and influence in the history of exegesis. It is his plain learning manner and the spirit of bold questioning that make positive effect and influence to later times.Finally, it is the final part as supplement to analyze and conclude his shortcomings in classical textual exegesis. There are three points of shortcomings, which is unwarranted assumption, the fault in the training and interpreting of the meaning, as well as the grammar errors.In all, the paper not only study Ruoxu Wang’s method and theory of exegesis in the synchronic horizon, but also assess his achievements and influence to later times in the diachronic horizon when put his studies in the history of exegetical studies.
