The translation task of The Silver Box, a drama about twenty thousand words was assigned by Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press, and Zhang Lisha and the translator assumed this translation task. The Silver Box is created by British novelist and playwright John Galsworthy in1906. It is about the loss of a silver box, criticizing the injustice of capitalist society. The language of the drama is in average difficulty with few long and complicated sentences, yet distinctive colloquial feature. Kuo Mojo and Qiu Yin translated The Silver Box, but their versions are quite long ago and of a few printing. The translator chooses "performability" as the translation strategy, highlights its drama feature, and makes it different from common literature translation. The report is divided into five parts:introduction, task description, process description, case analysis, summary&conclusion.Introduction briefly introduces The Slver Box and its author John Galsworthy, the former translated version, and this version. Task description is a further introduction of the translation task, the drama, and the author. Process description is about the process before, of and after the translation. Case analysis analyzes the translation strategy and key points with particular examples. In Summar y&conclusion, the translator expresses the understanding and thoughts from this task:a qualified translator must have rich professional knowledge and encyclopedia knowledge as well; drama translation with performability as strategy can fully embody its drama feature.
