The Changing Of Modern Fiber Arts Language And Expressional Methods

As a pluralistic art, fiber art has a significant status in modern arts, and has attracted great attentions of communities of art and architecture from all over the world. With the developments of times, artists have developed various new forms of expressions of fiber art. The modern fiber art is originally inspired by felt-making techniques, carpet weaver, tapestry craft, and the artistry of K’o-ssu. We could found the methods, ideals, or elements of those archaic crafts in any piece work of nowadays’fiber art.Traditional materials and modern materials are mixed together. Optimum combining sit es between traditional weaving and modern craft has been founded. Traditional artistic thoug hts and modern creative artistic ideals have collided sparks. Finally, an elusive s and pleasant art——the fiber art is made.This thesis has clearly described and deeply studied about the transforming of one of the fiber arts——wall hanging from traditional and simple wall mounting style to the sculptural, spatial and highly related of materials using and form designing’s unrestrained art style. This research focuses on the aspects of transforming of wall hanging from2dimensions to3dimensions, its material choosing, texture-making techniques, the selecting of spatial morphology, and combining with modern architectures. Moreover, under the study in this research, a set of work of fiber art had been created. It has embodied the spatial expressive force of fiber art.
