“Line” plays an important role in the history of art.Among the painting and sculpture works in each period of history,“line” is the basic and crucial element in modeling.For fiber art,“line” is also the primary constructive element,and the language of line is the core indicator of its noumenon.This dissertation attempts to discuss the special space and on-the-spot feelings of the “fiber line” in contemporary art from the perspective of fiber art,and rethink the concept of “line” as one of the most important art languages.The research first discusses the evolution of the concept of “line” in the modernist period,analyzes the origin of the “fiber line”,and analyzes the unique linear construction mode in the fiber art discourse.At the same time,starting from the context of contemporary art,it points out the significance of the concept of “fiber line” in the scientific and technological media and interdisciplinary fields.The first chapter,“Woven Story”,describes the important role of “fiber line” in the development of human history through both clues of the legend of knotted rope and the language of textile weaving.It also discusses the “line” in ancient times.It further discusses the historical status and evolution of the weaving process.The second chapter,“The Evolution of the Line of Modern Art History”,mainly discusses the transformation of “the Line of Crafts” in the history of modern art.It first elaborates from the “Enlightenment of Bauhaus” to the “Line of Ideas” of avant-garde artists,and then address how the linear language of fiber art gradually separated from the hanging art during the 1960s-1970 s,forming its own unique “Fiber Line”.The third chapter explores the evolution of the fiber line in the 1980 s and 1990 s,and summarizes the main presentations of the linear works of fiber art.The fourth chapter,“The Field of Fibers”,discusses the unique sense of space created by light and color for linear works,and analyzes the special time and space experience formed by the “fiber line” in different creative situations.The fifth chapter,“The Line of Integrating Contemporary Contexts”,focuses on the extension and expansion of the “fiber line”,from aspects of “Dancing Theatre”,“Woven Architecture” and “the Line of Media towards Contemporary Art”.The conclusion part combines the research of the whole dissertation and makes an open thinking and imagination about the future possibility of the “fiber line”.
