A Probing About Luo Ergang’s Historical Figures Of The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom

On the basis of previous research results, this paper investigates deeply Mr. Luo Ergang’s study of historical figures from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Historical perspective mainly, reveals Luo Ergang own characteristics about processing historical figures in order to provide some useful help for historians.Mr. Luo Ergang’s academic origin on the study of historical figures is influenced not only by his own early education and Bourgeois Historiography, but also he inherits the tradition from Qian-jia Historiography and carrys forward this tradition, especially he masters the theory and method of the Marx doctrine historiography. Mr. Luo Ergang succeeds in the tradition about Qian-jia academic studies which is not credible unless supported by evidence,focuses on textual criticism of historical figures.However, because of the change of guiding ideology, he is not to research for the purpose of Textual criticism,so his achievement is superior toward Qian-jia school of thought and Bourgeois Historians,and he achieves fruitful results.Through the investigation of Mr. Luo Ergang’s historical research and practice, we can find the historical methods and characteristics. Study methods of characters are embodied in the credit and disproof, proofreading and the prospecting method, the use of " Piece of eight" theory, historical data with social practice findings, the logical analysis and reasoning on the base of the observation. Under the guidance of the Marx doctrine historiography theory, comprehensive use of various methods makes Luo Ergang’s character study with personal characteristics. The first is the embodiment of historical materials, it pays attention to the reasonable evidence, strict history, seeking truth from facts, and can use the new materials, research new problem. Secondly, emphasizing" to comprehensively grasp the historical figures "in order to make historical figures have basic attributes. Thirdly, attach great importance to historical references, create application to historical materials, put forward that the history must serve for politics. In fourth, the masses of the people is the foundation of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. He walks along the route of the masses and respects the final conclusion of The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom itself. In addition, he applies a style of writing in which sublime words with deep meaning are used in the character study.In general, Mr. Luo Ergang is a great historian who has possession of high academic attainments and broad vision in character study, attaches great importance to historical role and bases on extensive materials and reasonable evidences. In character studies of The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom he starts in a new situation, a great research historian in the study of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom sets an example for successors, the successors carry forward his spirit, and study further the research of the Taiping Heavenly kingdom.
