Hakka Dialect Not Taiping Heavenly Kingdom National Language

There are many historians and linguists who had researched the language of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.Most of researchers think Hakka dialect is Taiping' s common language and some researchers even think Hakka dialect is Taiping national language.This conclusion based on Taiping' s language attitude and language practice.Meantime,more of researchers admire Taiping' s language selection and few of researchers on the contrary.Through this study,the readers can see,in the terms of language attitude,Taiping' s rulers like Hakka dialect very much,it shows Hakka language attitude in history.In the context of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom,this language attitude also depends on military needs and theological pursuits.In the terms of language practice,Taiping' s laws and regulations make Hakka dialect stronger.The laws & regulations cover stylistics,taboo,education,publication and officials.More to the point,through the analysis of the phonetic,vocabulary and grammatical features of Taiping documents,this study found that Hakka dialect is undoubtedly the Basic language of Taiping documents,which is consistent with the existence of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.However,Hakka dialect never become Taiping' s national language in the legal sense.Meanwhile,in the terms of language ecology,Hakka dialect is Taiping' s absolute language only for a time when Taiping army fight in Guangxi.After they leave Guangxi,other provinces' s people join the army,Hakka dialect is used less widely in the army.It causes disconnect between written and spoken language.Therefore,Taiping Heavenly Kingdom' s language choice plays a positive role in early period,it is good for Taiping' s missionary work,political mobilization and military struggle.Taiping' s language choice becomes corrupt in later period,intellectual object to Taiping because of it.This contributed to the demise of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
