The Study Of The Inland Idiom Dictionaries’ Investigation And Codification

Presently there are many research findings of Idioms, but about some basic problems thereis no the last word. Firstly on the basis of the academic views, we determine the Idiom’sconcept, explain the Idiom’s members that including the four character idioms, slangs,proverbs, idiomatic phrases and the two-part allegorical sayings. The Idioms have threecharacters, they are the structure forms of sexual stereotypes, the semantic integrations andthe functional integrity. Depending on the bases of the Idioms’ definition, our main objectiveis to study the inland idiom dictionaries’ codification. From the relations of the Lexicologyand Lexicography, we mainly investigate some cases about the modern idiom dictionaries’compilation, including analyzing the kinds of the published idiom dictionaries, thecompilation about the selection of idioms, the phonetic notation, interpretation, layout, theexamples’ selection and so on.The full text is divided into five parts:The first chapter is the introduction section, including telling the research significance ofthe topic and introducing the current research status of Idioms. Then on the basis of thesetheories, we give ourselves opinions about the Idioms for the article’s further research.The second chapter is one of the main parts of the thesis which focus on the researchmaterials collected and surface description. Firstly we choose the research materials and theresearch range through the establishment of the information database; followed we classifythese idiom dictionaries from different angles. By this way, we can present the Idioms’ richdiversities, then we also can highlight the internal complexity of the Idioms.Chapter three is also the main part of the paper. Around the main components, we get thespecific compilation of the idiom dictionaries. At the same time, also we make somesystematic investigations about the marking of the dictionaries’ glosses, the providing of therelevant information, the explaining of the structures and the lexical properties, the Idioms’small sorts, the etymology and the source, the usage of the punctuations and so on. In theprocess of the surface description, we find the laws and the deficiencies of the idiomdictionaries’ compilation.The second chapter and the third chapter basically remain in the analysis of the descriptionlevels, but the analysis of chapter4depends on the different problems from the different modules. We provide some personal advice to standard the compilation of the idiomdictionaries.Chapter5is the conclusion which we mainly summary the above research results, and wehope that these research results can have some reference value for the compilation of theidiom dictionaries such as the whole collection of the Idioms, the handling of the phoneticnotation and the meanings, etc.In short, the research mainly focuses on the inland idiom dictionaries’ codification. Notonly from the macroscopic perspective we investigate the current situation of the idiomdictionaries’ codification longitudinally, including the total number of the published idiomdictionaries, the number of each small category, and we get a variety of classification aboutthese dictionaries from the external angles; but also from the microscopic perspective we havea horizontal analysis and inspection about the compilation of the idiom dictionaries, includingdiscussing the processing conditions and deficiency of the words, phonetic interpretation,establishing item example glosses and other aspects. At the same time, combining with thespecific theoretical knowledge and practice of compiling, we give the revision opinion that wehope could promote the standardization of the idiom dictionaries’ compilation.
