Shishuoxinyu:from Historical Literature To The Tang Legend

As a classical works of Chinese ancient literature history,Shishuoxinyu got the attention and affectionby people since it came out.when ancient scholars studied Shishuo,they or put it as a historical record,thought it literature material of study the lives of people in wei-jin period;or looked at it as a novel,regarded it as a novel masterpiece in southern and northern dynasties period.This article chooses theperspective of relationship between Shishuo and historical literature to illustrate Shishuo’scharacteristics ofboth novel and historical literature.It is the uniqueness of Shishuo which set up a bridge from miscellaneouspreach to the Tang Legend.This article has three chapters.The first chapter, the inheritance and developmentof Shishuo to historical literature in artistic technique.Shishuo took example by historical literature inartistic technique,such as to shape the typical character image as the center,containing the judge innarrative,the use of intertextuality technique,all of this is not LiuYiQing’s create,but is historical literaturealready have.At the same time, LiuYiQing did not limited in the frame of historical literature,but madeinnovations.He put the performance of people’s personality,verve as the center of the works,no longerpursue true history,paied attention to the artistic reality.As the other hand of the artistic achievement,thelanguage of Shishuo is also very special.The author is good at designing the characters’ language accordingto the personality characteristics of characters.the langulage is brief,implicative,and modern.The second chapter, the inheritance and development of Shishuo to historical literature instyle.Shishuo took example by zishu and history works in compiling style,formed the characteristics ofclassification and short.At the same time,under the influence of age and the reasons of the development ofstyle itself,Shishuo has its unique stylistic features,the formation of this unique style has two reasons bothexternal and internal.The external reason refers to the style will develop as the times changed;the internalreason is LiuYiQing’s special creative motivation.The third chapter,through the comparison between Shishuoxinyu and the Tang Legend,see theinfluence of the former to the latter.In the Tang Dynasty formed a special style—the Tang Legend.Itsappearance is not accidental,but formed slowly in the reference and innovation of all sorts of styles in thepast,including the reference to Shishuo.The Tang legend developed on the basic of hanwei six dynasties’ miscellaneous biography and weijin dynasties’strangenovel.Compared with Shishuo,the Tang Legend is more mature in the use of artistic technique. In thecreation of Tang Legend,the attitude of recreation and rich imagination made the plot more tortuous,storymore touching.They pursue “strange” in creation.whether the subject of ghosts or the personnel ofreality,they all strive to put the story moving,full of mysterious colour,in order to meet the readers’curiouspsychology.And the Tang people choose the method of biography in history works which increased thetruth of the story.About the style features of the Tang Legend,we think poetry and prose in biography as thebasic style feature of the Tang Legend.Although the Tang Legend inherited some narrative method ofhistorical literature,the things such as poetry and prose more obviously influenced the writing of the TangLegend.The Tang Legend inserted scenery description in narration,the reveal of artistic conception inpoetry, the use of first person’s limited narrative,all of these mainly come from the reference to poetry andprose.As a new style, a main feature of the Tang Legend is the poetry and prose in biography,mix verse andprose together.
