A Lai never stop paying attention to the the problem of existence, his works vividly depict human survival attitude in the plight, then trigger readers to think about the survival value.The existential plight in A Lai’s novels is first expressed in the perplexity of survival when people are chasing the desire. In his novels, some people suffered hunger; some people regretted for a lifetime because they were dedicated to love; some people lost their lives because they were blinded by money. In addition, some people obsessed with power so that they were indifferent to the family. Through the human natures that the characters showing in the face of the desire and their tragic fate, we can feel the confusion of survival what the works convey.The existential plight in A Lai’s novels also demonstrate in the person’s social attributes. A Lai’s novels not only showed slaves’s hard life caused by hierarchy of slavery social, but also reveal the humble status of women in the patriarchal society, in addition, the novels reproduce the harsh reality in the tumultuous years. Author’s aesthetic reflection is manifested by the human survival state in these different era background and different pressures of life.The existential plight in A Lai’s novels are also reflected in the character’s recognition and pursuit for self-identity. On the one hand, A Lai focused on describing human’s needs of self-realization and self-understanding, and the universal sense of loneliness as well. On the other hand, his novels demonstrated character’s suspicion on self-identity when their ideal lost or the characters fell into dual wandering of physical and mental. Through these, A lai sentiment the value of the existence of life.A Lai’s novels not only examine the plight of human survival, but also think about ways of breaking through difficulties.Therefore, his novels described the light and happiness of living, and thus we can feel his call for humanity and principle of human nature, as well as the ultimate thinking for the meaning of human existence.
