Reflection And Clarity Of The Meaning Of Life-Existential-Ontological Interpretation Of Belief

Goethe once said"The only authentic topical subject of the world history is the conflict between belief and unbelief."The"conflict"mentioned here means"the lost of belief"at the present age when modernism and post-modernism coexist."The lost of belief"actually means the lost of the"meaning"of human being's living. In our opinion, human being is a kind of being which pursue"meaning". For human being's being-in-the-world, we always need a spirit basic ground to get ourselves settled down to establish the right direction for life, and thus, from the root, we establish this ground with"belief". After all, men have to"believe"something, or they may tend to fall into nihilism and relativism.Nihilism and relativism may lead to hedonism and individualism which mean possessive instinct of"material"and pursuit of sensory stimulation. Accordingly,"commodity fetishism"and extremely conceited solipsism fill in the vacancy of"meaning". However,"materialization"of"meaning"conflicts to the internal superiority of human beings, and solipsism make people fall into conflicts. We think that these are two basic problems in the present age. To solve problems like these, one possible way is to base on human beings as a whole, and enlighten them of"belief"Existentially. Rationalism fell into self-dispelling after they dispelled the"sacred image"."Dispelling"Rationalistically is a road of no return, therefore, Enlightenment of"belief"should base itself on the way of Existential-Ontology. As we live meaningfully, we have to say"yes"to what in the history and achievements of our thought, and this is just what enlightenment pursue.This thesis aims to begin with questioning the meaning of life, then to confer the meaning of"meaning". What we think is that for the mankind,"life has its own meaning"is the first"belief"of their being. Nevertheless, in this sense,"meaning"is of diversity and of mess. What"commodity fetishism"and some primitive religions even evil religions advocate as"belief"can be the support of"the meaning of life", which brings the conflict of different"beliefs". We do not try to establish a single-meaning"primary""belief", but try to find a kind of"belief"which could support the meaning for oneself, and which does not exclude the pursuit of the meaning of others through probing into the enlightening of"belief".
