Study Of Application Of Shadow Element In Animation Design

Shadow play, as an ancient and traditional art form, has gone through ups and downs in the course of history. It has strong national cultural atmosphere, and truly live show and pure picture and sound experience make memorable. The screen performing arts has been known as the prototype of the contemporary film animation. The shadow play is a master of arts, with numerous artistic elements such as dance, drama, music, art, and so on. The unique shape and the national temperament bring audience humor emotional atmosphere. By virtue of its unique virtual and real lighting effects, music, singing, performing, shadow play had been popular folk art. In order to extend its vitality, any art form will be always showing new face by following progress of the times and developments of concepts and technological. Thus, so as to create industry of shadow play culture belonging to China and the whole world, the shape, carving,color, action and demeanor, singing, music, emotion and other elements in shadow play has been refined to the animation and doing so will sublimate the art essence of animation.In this paper, the origin, aesthetic characteristics, cultural and value of shadow play were discussed. Through studying the artistic elements of shadow play, advantage of the shadow play was seized and how to apply the shadow graph elements to animation design was analyzed.
