"The Lady of the Camellias" is a novel and drama created by the French writer and playwright Alexandre Dumas (Fils) in the nineteenth century, based on which the Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi wrote his work with the name "La Traviata". All the works in three different art forms achieved great success.Focusing on the transformations of the story "The Lady of the Camellias" between the different art forms of novel, drama and opera, this thesis observes how different narrative ways and expressional methods are used in the transformations, and emphatically analyzes the artistic expressional function of opera language.This thesis falls into four chapters. Chapter One generally introduces the creation backgrounds and storylines of the works of both Alexandre Dumas Fils and Giuseppe Verdi; Chapter Two compares different structures among novel, drama and opera, analyzing them from the aspects of additions and deletions of plot, different narrative perspectives and such; Chapter Three analyzes different role designing and role images in these three art forms; Chapter Four examines the specific expressional functions of opera language from the angle of "Opera’s Narrative Language" and further understands the art characteristics of opera language; finally a conclusion is drawn.
