This thesis makes a comparison between a one-act play by the Irishplaywright Lady Gregory and its Chinese adapted street play from theperspective of medio-translatology by adopting the concept of“creative treason”. This thesis endeavors to explore the artistic values ofthe two plays by comparing their titles, plots and ballads whileanalyzing the social elements of the Chinese version in terms of threesubjects of creative treason. The sinicizing translation and adaptation ofOur Beautiful Homeland could without much exaggeration show andrepresent the Chinese intellectuals’ active engagement and dialoguewith Western culture and their struggle to introduce their ideas to theChinese stage and the Chinese audience. This thesis aims to illustratethe significance of the thought of creative treason in the formativeperiod of modern domestic literature by means of case study. For theadaptors and the audience of Our Beautiful Homeland, theydiscovered something they needed then (not by the intention of theoriginal author). In the process of sinicization, the play has had newinterpretations and gained its fresh life in the domestic drama field.
