One-act Play Of An Art Historian

Heinrich W lfflin plays an important role in art history, regarded as "the father of modern arthistory". As the brilliant disciple of Jacob Burckhardt, Heinrich W lfflin spends his life onanalysing the form of plastic arts. He makes great contribution on art history, aesthetics, philosophyof art, and history and so on and so forth. His thought has much influence on Martin Wackernageland Frederic Antal, and inspires the post-modern art historians, like Roger Fletcher and ClementGreenberg.The domestic and foreign scholars attach main importance to Heinrich W lfflin’s mindand method of analysing the form of plastic art. In summarizing the works of W lfflin himselfand the fruits of predecessors, this thesis will deeply and completely discuss the HeinrichW lfflin’s thought.In the frame arrangement of this dissertation, the first section depicts the experience of HeinrichW lfflin and the background of society and culture. In the chapter two, three and four,this thesisdiscuss the Heinrich W lfflin’s viewpoint of plastic art, including the mind and method ofanalysing the form of plastic art and humanism Heinrich W lfflin understands. In the chapter five,we will discuss the influence produced by W lfflin. Simply compared with Heinrich W lfflin,Henri Focillon, Ernst Gombrich and so on, it will show us the pros and cons of Heinrich W lfflin’sviewpoint of plastic art. Meantime, this thesis points out that Heinrich W lfflin, in a certaindegree,has his successors, whose research method has operability and availability.
