The Research Of Two-syllable Adverb-verb Structure Compound Words In Contemporary Chinese

The research objects of this article are the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary"5th edition. Scholars ’study of modifier-head compound words most focused on the attribute-head compound words, but the study of adverb-verb structure compound words was less.For the study of adverb-verb structure compound words, scholars usually choose a small family of the adverb-verb structure compound words as their study site, or focus on the whole attribute-head compound words, while the adverb-verb structure compound words just are one aspect in their studv. There were not precedent that take the adverb-verb structure compound words as the single study site in the previous study. So we take the adverb-verb structure compound words as our subject of our study has some originality in the language materials’selecting. So we may make up the drawbacks of the previous study.The head morphemes of the adverb-head structure compound words are predicate morphemes, which includes two classifications-the adjective morphemes and the verb morphemes. So the adverb-head structure compound words have two parts of speech-verb and adjective. Our study only focuses on the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words, whose head morphemes are verbs. The vocabulary is an open system, so we choose an authoritative dictionary-"The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary"5th edition, which is published by Commercial Press as our survey. The essay conducts an exhaustive study of all the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary"5th edition. We list2650two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words in "The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary"5th edition, in Appendix. We will analysis the relationship between the morphemes, the relationship between the meanings of morphemes and the meanings of the whole words, the distinguishing features of the meanings of the whole adverb-verb structure compound words, the semantic types of the2650two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words respectively and try to summarize the characteristics of the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words.We will use the means of quantities-qualitative analysis and uniformity of analysis and synthesis, focusing on the synchronic and diachronic angles to provide an across-the-aboard analysis on the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words. From the statistic analysis, we found that, the types of the modifier morphemes constituting the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words are many and varied. There are four main types, such as the verb morphemes, the adverb morphemes, the adjective morphemes and the noun morphemes, but their abilities of structuring the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words are unbalanced. Verb morphemes, as the core of the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words, the abilities of them are also unbalanced. The overwhelming majority are weak, while a tiny minority are strong. The reasons may lie in the meanings of the verb morphemes, the forms of the verb morphemes, the quantity of the entry of the verb morphemes, the use frequency of the verb morphemes and so on. The semantic relations between the adverb morphemes and the head morphemes can be divided into two types:combination and mergence, and the combination types are primary. There are many different semantic models in the the two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words. The "state+verb" semantic model constitutes the majority. The meanings of the whole word of these two-syllable adverb-verb structure compound words have some features, such as monosemy, narrows and so on.
