Inheritance And Innovation In Chinese Character Simplification Of The Standardized Chinese Character Table

Standard Chinese Characters Table is a comprehensive Chinese characters specification standard that integrates and improves some relevant standards such as the first batch of tabulated variant forms of Chinese characters(1955), Printed general Chinese characters table(1965), Simplified General Table(1986), Table of frequently-used characters in modern Chinese (1988), Table of modern general Chinese characters(1988) and so on. There has been a lot of achievements on this table from Standard Chinese Characters Table’s preparation in April,2001to its seeking views in public in August,2009. However, there is still no achievement on comparative study on prior standard character tables systematically. This paper tries to analyze comparatively simplification of Chinese characters’contents and foundations of revision in Standard Chinese Characters Table and its prior relevant character tables. Then we try to summarize the inheritance and innovation of Standard Chinese Characters Table from relevant studies before.Simplified General Table(1986) is a principal standards of simplified characters now. It is a systematic and scientific simplified characters table that has learned from prior Chinese characters’simplification. This table has greatly facilitated people’s learning and using since its carrying out. It also plays an important role in eliminating the phenomenon of social words chaos, which gets the affirmation of all circles of the society. This paper mainly takes Simplified General Table(1986) as the comparative objects of Standard Chinese Characters Table. Therefore, the study on the inheritance and innovation of Standard Chinese Characters Table’s simplification of Chinese characters is based on the totally analysis of Simplified General Table(1986). The investigation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of Simplified General Table(1986) mainly put into practice from corresponding relation between complexformed and simplified, the origin of simplified characters and the methods of Chinese characters’ simplification. Then this paper will summarize the experience and lessons, investigate and quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the relevant revision of Standard Chinese Characters Table, and summarize the inheritance and innovation of Standard Chinese Characters Table.This paper consists three parts:The first part:Introduction. This part simply introduces the reasons and train of thought. The second part:After defining simplified characters, combing the historical process of Chinese simplified movement, learning the conditions and backgrounds of simplification of Chinese characters in each stage. Then summarizing the study on simplification of Chinese characters since the Founding.The third part:Simplification of Chinese characters in Simplified General Table(1986). The investigation and quantitative and qualitative analysis of Simplified General Table(1986) mainly put into practice from corresponding relation between complexformed and simplified, the origin of simplified characters and the methods of Chinese characters’simplification. Then this paper will summarize the experience and lessons on simplification of Chinese characters in Simplified General Table(1986).The fourth part:Simplification of Chinese characters in Standard Chinese Characters Table. Analyzing Standard Chinese Characters Table’s adjustments on Simplified General Table(1986) and trying to summarize its inheritance and innovation.The fifth part:Conclusion. This part mainly states the significance of this subject and the defects in the process of the study and conclusion caused by personal ability.
