Simplified Characters Total Table is an important outcome which is studied and sorted out through thelong-time practice of the reform of the simplification of the Chinese characters. This thesis chooses482simplified characters from the first and secondtable of the Total Table as the objects of analysis and research to summarize, analyze and study the methodsof simplification and thraceability problem.This thesis analyzes and summarizes carefully the developing context of the Chinese characters on thebasis of the organization of the previous researches on the simplification of Chinese characters on allaspects. And this thesis has profound knowledge and understanding of the process of the development andchange of the Chinese characters from ancient times and forms a theoretical basis. During the process ofthe simplification of Chinese characters, there are mainly11methods of simplification: component ellipsis,retention contour of the original characters, the pictophonetic simplification, understanding simplified,homophonic substitution, symbolic substitution, cursive simplified, ancient words, abandoned words, at thesame time using in ancient times, established by the people through long social practice, etc. According tothese11methods of simplification, this thesis classifies the simplified characters and makes source analysisof each character to identify the earliest source of the Chinese characters and the simplified characters areclassified, at the same time for every Chinese characters to trace analysis, to find out the earliest origin ofChinese characters, and it also makes brief analysis in order to reveal the evolutionary system of Chinesecharacters.Without doubt, due to the limitations of time and understanding level, the simplified characters in theSimplified Characters Total Table inevitably have some inadequacies. Mainly due to the reduction ofstrokes and form and structure, there are some homophones and shape characters which are easy to arousepeople's misreading and miswriting, and even there are some words which destroy the motivation of Chinese characters so as to increase the difficulties of memorization, etc. Summarization and classificationin this thesis are helpful in studying and applying Chinese characters.
