From Sacred To Secular-A Study On The Process Of Secularization Of Hanzhuo Legend In Shandong Central Region

Legend is a kind of important folk literature.It produced later than myth. There topic is different, Myth is given priority to explain the phenomenon ancients cannot understand, but legend tends to show the legendary properties about character, place names and so on. So,compared with the "deity" about the hero in myth,the legend hero show more "personality".Many legend heros are actually exist in history.After the rendering of later generations,they finally have legendary properties today.Just because of that, Many legends are created.The legend of HanZhuo in HanTing district, was devloped in such a mode. There are a lot of records in old literatures about HanZhuo.In most of that literatures,HanZhuo once overthrow the Xia dynasty for dozens of years. Therefore, in ancient history books, HanZhuo is an insurgent. But, in fact, in HanZhuo’s hometown-HanTing district,there are a lot of legends about him.To our surprise,HanZhuo become positive character in the legend,he give people a lot of help. Insurgent in history, in the mouth of the local people, became gods who has much function ordinary people doesn’t have,and use his divine power to bless local people. Opposition between history and legend reflects ordinary people and the government’s different demand, while the change of his image shows the process HanZhuo legend gradually formed into public life, and finally become a kind of faith.Based on the thinking above, this paper can be divided into six parts. The first part is the introduction, it introduced the writing intention and the contemporary study status about the legend of HanZhuo.The second part introduced the legend spreading region simply, including environment of village, the faith of village. In the third part of this paper,I compare and analyse the opposition about HanZhuo between legends and the ancient history.In the fourth part, the research object turn back to legend, and give analysis in dynamic aspect for the formation and the variation.Based on the above,the fifth part summarize the local characteristics of "HanZhuo"legend, including the belief and customs.The last part is the conclusion for the paper,which put forward open question about the future of the legend.
