There are a lot of problems related to the Chinese character给which means to give in modern Chinese. In this paper, on the basis of comprehensive studying on previous research results, parts of speech, verbs of给,and sentences of给has been analyzed, and especially the academic debate and the ambiguous conclusion on the subject has been studied with a hard-working try.First, The investigation into the character给has been carried out by reading a large number of materials. It has been found that给as a verb was firstly used in Qin Dynasty. The relationship of给and与and the features of给’susage which was used at that period of time have been explained on the basis of that conclusion. Then, many factors which lead to给changed to a preposition has been discussed on the following chapters. In the mean time,给as an auxiliary word has been analyzed and finally has been made a conclusion that给which belongs to"给vp" can not be a preposition but an auxiliary word, because it has been no longer added any Nominal Parts.Second, the paper has explored the sentences of给and some problems in the framework of给’sstructure based on four kinds of给’ssentences which was posed by ZhuDexi firstly. It is believed that there are several connections among the four kinds of给’ssentences on the usage. S2and S3are the basic给’ssentences, and other relevant给’ssentences are derivative from the two basic gei’s sentences.Third,给not only can express the meaning of giving, but also can express many grammatical meanings, such as passive meaning and disposal meaning. And there is another usage——pivotal sentence of给After analyzing several classical sentences of these special usages, a series of form’s features and meaning’s traits have been obtained. For example, Verbal Parts which are composed of resultative complement and verbs which is back of给can be Verb-resultative style. And so do Verbal Parts which directional complement is part of it. That is, Verbal Parts which are composed of directional complement and verbs which are back of给can be Verb-directional style.
