Dialects in Nantong are diverse and widely distributed,which crosses Jianghuai mandarin area and Wu dialect area.It can be divided into Nantong dialect,Ruhai dialect,Haiqi dialect and Tongdong dialect.This thesis describes and analyzes the "Han" sentence and its derived sentences in Nantong dialect from both synchronic approach and diachronic approach.It also compares "Han" sentence with "Gei" constructions in mandarin and other dialects to explore the evolution characters of "Han" sentence in Nantong dialect.The thesis is divided into six chapters.The first part is the introduction.After introducing the current research status on "Gei" constructions and Nantong dialect,the introduction provides overview of the methods,objects,significance,and data sources of the research.Chapter 1 discusses "Han" sentence with given meaning in Nantong dialect."Han" sentence with given meaning can be expressed as S1 "NP1+V+NP3+Han+NP2" ?S2 "(NP3 fronting)NP1+V+ Han +NP2" and S3 "NP1+Han +NP3+NP2",which are divided in three transfer expressions.It analyzes "Han" sentence in the syntactic,semantic,and pragmatic dimensions,and puts forward the hypothesis that "transfer" and "arrival" are separated in S1,tend to converge in S2,actually be converged in S3.Based on the practical usage,it also explains the influence of rhythm environmental constraints and discusses omissions and transposition of "Han" sentence with given meaning.Chapter 2 discusses "Han" sentence with causative meaning in Nantong dialect.The meaning of the sentence is divided into permission,comity,allowance,conscious causative,and unconscious causative based on the hierarchy of animacy,control,and volition,which can also be ranked with causative degree.It is shown as command>causative > tolerance.It also explains evolution process developed from "Han" sentence with given meaning,when VP becomes more and more prominent in form and semantics of S1 and S2.Chapter 3 discusses "Han" sentence with passive meaning in Nantong dialect.The analysis is derived from syntactic,semantic,and pragmatic characteristics of the sentence by comparing it with "Jiao" sentence with passive meaning,especially the subjective differences between two sentences.Meanwhile,the development of its passive function is also discussed,which is from the transition of control degree of NP1 and NP2 in "Han" sentence with allowance meaning.Chapter 4 is the comparison between "Han" sentence in Nantong dialect and other dialects.It analyzes the usage and evolution process of "Gei" constructions and its descendable sentences in Madarin and other dialects."Han" sentence is similar with typical southern dialects,and it can also briefly explains the inexistence of disposal constructions and short passive sentence.The fifth part is the conclusion.This part mainly summarizes the merits and demerits.
