The Relationship And The Properties Towards Japan In The Early Period Of Bohai State

Bohai State is a powerful and prosperous country. From its establishment (AD698) to its demise(AD926), it ranges for more than two hundred years and it is a country with great influence in the Northeast region of China.Though it is founded by the Tang Dynasty, in the early days of the new country, the relationship with Tang Dynasty is not harmonious due to the fact that they do not deeply understand each other and have some misunderstanding towards each other’s diplomatic policies, political needs and so on. In the ninth year of Ren’an regime (AD727), The King of Bohai State sent out messengers for the first time.But in the association between Japan and Bohai State in the early days (AD698-AD793), there are still many problems, for example, the recognition, equity issues towards Goguryeo etc. The reasons of the problem, on one hand, lie in the lack of understanding between Bohai State and Goguryeo in the early days, so that they both exert evasive attitude towards some sensitive problems, which aggravates the conflict provocation; on the other hand, are due to the shift of diplomatic measures with political color.Indeed, during the communication process of Japan and Bohai State of the early days, no diplomatic measures of the two countries remained unchanged, which altered according to the changes of the international situations and their own requirements. Bohai state towards Japan diplomatic strategy have also been adjusted. This paper attempts to Bohai state centric-perspective to look at it and analyze the Bohai state early diplomatic relations with Japan and its nature.The thesis renders a relatively new perspective and a changing and developing viewpoint to look at and analyze the change and the relevant reasons of Bohai State’s diplomatic policies towards Japan. The thesis can be divided into four parts. The first three parts respectively discuss the formulation and adjustment of Bohai State’s diplomatic measures towards Japan as well as the special relationship between Bohai State and Japan, which is not always equal but not forming the subordinate relation. The first three parts ushered in the fourth part, that is to view the Bohai-oriented relationship between Bohai State and Japan and to analyze the various changes in the relationship between the two in a changeful and developmental way, which is always sticking to the Marxist concept of development with an expectation to make some contributions for the history of the relationship between Bohai and Japan.
