A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Bohai State(Chapter 7-8)

The original text of this translation is selected from chapter 7 and 8 of Bohai State by Li Dianfu and Sun Yuliang,which belongs to informative text.This translation practice report covers the agriculture,handicraft industry,animal husbandry,fishing and hunting,business contacts and diplomacy of Bohai State,which has great significance for domestic and foreign scholars to understand the development of northeast China.This report is divided into four parts,namely,translation task description,translation process description,case analysis and summary,and the third part is the core of the translation practice report.Based on the characteristics of translated text and the theory of functional equivalence,the translator discusses and analyzes the translation methods of historical and cultural words and sentences in the third part.The translation methods of historical and cultural words mainly include transliteration,literal translation and free translation.The translation methods of complex long sentences and compound short sentences are mainly division,combination,conversion of voices and recasting translation.In the process of translation,the translator has realized that the cultural differences between Chinese and English have a great impact on translation practice,and there is a long way to go to become a qualified translator.The translator hopes that this practice report can provide some references for non-literary translators.
