Due to criticism and revision of the "Water Margin" Jin became famous. Although thecomment on him is mixed, his status as a great ancient Chinese literary critic is not in doubt.This article tell us his novel critical theory from the five aspects of the theme, the character,the structure, the plot and the language, in order to provide theoretical guidance for today’sfiction reading and writing.First, Theme theory:"to punish evil and Edmonton" and "loyalty protect the country"two contradictory complex ideas in his mind are closely intertwined, and difficult to clarify.So we conclude that the theme of the article is the theory that mob will punish. Its theme isdifferent from the original theme of "Water Margin"Second, the character theory: Jin created a Chinese "personality theory". He pointed outthat the characteristic figures should have similarity and personality, stability and rich,legendary and authenticity. He emphasized the unique "personality" of the characters havetheir own life. It is a major theoretical contribution to the Chinese novel aesthetics.Third, the structure theory: The "transforms" law of Jin’s poetry is applied to thestructure of the whole novel "Water Margin", which is one of his original. In terms of localcontent, he learns from the biography of "Historical Records" and summed up the structuremethod of "horizontal cloud Broken Hill". These insights are profound even today.Fourth, the plot theory: In the same time when he recognized that the plot has animportant role in shaping the characters, he particularly appreciated the wonderful plot andemphasized the importance of combining the detailed writing with the little writing. Headmired the value of the detail description.Last, the language theory: Jin especially admired personalized dialogue and thought it isthe best skills to create a characteristic figure.
