| Throughout history, the exchanges between Chine, Japan and Okinawa are time-honored and complicated. In the year1372, the fifth year of the Hongwu Period, Chu Yuanchang, the first founder of Ming Dynasty, sent messengers to Okinawa, since when the friendship between China and Okinawa has been established. During the next more than two hundred years, the support given by China brought out the most flourishing period in the history of Okinawa. However, this caused the jealousy of Satsuma Domain in Japan, which in turn gave the rise to the battle between Satsuma Domain and Okinawa. The battle is deemed as a significant turning point with regard to the history of the relations between Japan and Okinawa, Satsuma Domain and Okinawa, even the relations between China and Okinawa. Because Satsuma Domain and China think for its own economic interests and national security considerations after the war, Okinawa keeps independent. Then Okinawa became an important country between china and Satsuma Domain. Ryukyu are trying to get rid of two genera in this dilemma and trying to recover the absolute independence. But Okinawa is still perished by Japan finally. The background, the whole story and the consequence of this important battle can be clarified in detail by means of studying this event and its influences. The study can also reflect the complicated relations between China, Japan, Satsuma Domain and Okinawa, which are hidden behind the battle between Satsuma Domain and Okinawa. On the basis of the original files with regard to the battle, as well as the research findings of scholars at home and abroad, this dissertation focuses on the battle between Satsuma Domain and Okinawa, which occurred in1609. The author comprehensively analyzes and objectively evaluates the reason why this battle happened, the special status of Okinawa, the influences it had and the post-war relation between Satsuma Domain and Okinawa, as well as that between China and Okinawa. |
