Gong Zizhen is an enlightenment thinker and writer before the unveiling of our modernhistory. He left more than800poems, articles and lyrics. But the reputation of his lyrics ismostly covered by his poem or article’s reputation. People of the time rarely knew them. Hislyrics have more distinct features of The Times and personality colors. They described thedecline of that era and also expressed the emotional experience of all his life. In the Qingdynasty with many great litterateurs and diverse genres in lyrics, Gong Zizhen’s lyrics learnedwidely from other’s strong points and formed its own style. It has high literary value. Thispaper selects Gong Zizhen’s lyrics as the research object, on the basis of the results ofprevious studies, and connects his family background, emotion experience, the New TextSchool and Buddhism which influenced on him, thus to analysis the art style and lyricthoughts of Gong Zizhen’s lyrics.The paper is made up of four parts. The first part investigates Gong Zizhen’s familybackground, emotion experience and the New Text School and Buddhism influenced on him.Trying to reveal the family and personal factor and times’ atmosphere of his lyrics. Thesecond part analyzes Gong Zizhen’s lyrics from the angle of theme and content. GongZizhen’s lyrics have wide range of themes, and among them, romance lyrics, chanting lyrics,painting lyrics, presenting and responsorial lyrics account for a large proportion. It finelyrecorded the living condition and emotion world of Gong Zizhen. The third part analyzes theart style of Gong Zizhen’s lyrics, it is based on preamble research. His lyrics contains dazeand obscurity of affectionate childe, depression and melancholy of literator of Eschaton, boldand unconstrained of Confucianism gentlemen and also has comparison and reposing of ageneration of lyric heroes. His lyrics had various styles, learned widely and gather manystrengths of other literati and formed his own style. The fourth part discusses Gong Zizhen’slyric thoughts, which is respect for love and emphasize “perfection”. This lyric thoughtreappeared romance literature tradition, emphasized practical content of emotion, broadenedconnotation of affection and have the color of modern enlightenment.Compared with poetry and articles, Gong Zizhen’s lyrics recorded his living conditionand emotion state more comprehensive. With the in depth study of his family background,emotion experience, learning experience, lyric’s theme and content, artistic style and lyricthoughts, we can see more clearly that the artistic value of Gong Zizhen’s lyrics and asloknow more clearly about his important historical role in lyric field of late Qing dynasty.
