Mural art can be rated as an inexhaustible encyclopedia, and in China, Shanxi now is the most centralized and richest area which preserve the ancient fresco. Shanxi mural emerged in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and had been developing in the Southern and Northern dynasties and Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, all linked with another, its style were both inherited and variational, which not only reflects the painting features in different periods, but also has a certain value on the study of music historical materials, social, religious and other aspects.Mural art of Taoist temple, as an important kind of fresco art, is the art treasure of China. Jinnan, one of the origin of Chinese civilization, has a long history and profound cultural heritage, the reserves and achievement of mural of Taoist temple are both on the top of China, which has become an important project of national cultural heritage protection. This article will explore the issues of musicology, look for music historical data, rebuild Jinnan ancient music from the mural of Taoist temple.This paper is an interdisciplinary research subject. Currently in the research of musicology, we have not made the comprehensive and detail investigation and hackling on the music historical materials of mural of Taoist temple in Jinnan. This thesis summarizes the distribution, status quo and music historical materials of mural of Taoist temple in Jinnan from the musical sociology point of view. By analyzing and studying the music historical materials of mural of Taoist temple in Jinnan, we can describe and demonstrate the local customs, sacrifice ritual, opera art, religious ritual, music activities as well as instruments of Jinnan, which are reflected from the mural. For the ritual music activities in mural of Taoist temple in Jinnan, we mainly discuss it through three aspects:the relationship between folk ritual from the murals and gagaku at that time; Jinnan folk beliefs represented from the musical ritual activities in the mural; the society inheritance of sacrifice ritual in the mural.
