Xu Fuguan in his Spirit of Chinese Arts pointed out, Confucius and Chuang Tzu were both doing art for life. However, Chuang Tzu’s Tao’s spirit of the Chinese art become the subject of spirit, keep development; Confucius’s benevolence’s art spirit in art declined and turned to the literature. The real reason is the different essential attributes of the two art spirits. Chuang Tzu’s art spirit is seeking the truth, and the art spirit of Confucius is seeking good spirit, seeking truth is more close to people the real temperament, in addition, the essential attribute of art is also truth. Chinese art spirit that is the traditional art spirit, different from the modernist trend of art. Xu Fuguan criticized the modernism in art, and pointed out modern art is not desirable. He argued modern art acted counter to truth and kindness, and even beauty. Truth, kindness and beauty are all human culture value of the property, the relationship among truth, kindness and beauty, in short, truth is the premise and foundation of kindness and beauty, and without the true, there is no kindness and beauty. In conclusion, the Xu Fuguan in his Spirit of Chinese Arts can reveal the basic rule of the development of art, and also indicate the orientation of art’ develepment. We should persue truth in doing art.
