Bottleneck Of Interlingual Consonant Representation

When someone who is learning a third language(L3) represents a sound in the L3using a familiar, native-language(L1)category, the L3sound is often poorly understood. This study intends to explore how the performance of detecting signal sounds affected by storage of novel speech sounds results from temporary activation of sounds representations in long-term memory by SDT task in which the participants should detect sounds in Shanghai dialect they just heard from noises which consists of different consonant but the same vowel as signal sound. Compare to Shanghai dialect native speakers, the northern mandarin native speakers detect signals much worse, especially in the shanghai dialect consonant S-N and English consonant S-N detecting task. After imitate reading, the northern mandarin native speakers detect signals better in mandarin consonant S-N and English consonant S-N detecting task, but they perform worse in shanghai dialect consonant S-N detecting task.,...
