As the opportunity of Martin Buber’s encounter with Zhuangzi, This paper expounds the the issue of "the other" which in the philosophical thinking of them.,And sets up a possibility of dialogue by connecting their understanding of the issue to the development of the issue itself. It is clear to them that the otherness of the other is a prerequisite for the issue. Martin Buber believes that "me" and the other should establish an authentic relationship which called I and Thou through dialogue.,and the otherness which the other can be the other can only be insight in the "relationship". Zhuangzi gaves ontological proof to the otherness of the other by means of debating the relationship between Tao and Thing(dao wu道物)which revealed the parallel between the identity of Tao and otherness of the other. Based on paying close attention to people’s authentic existence, the other is a survival subject rather than a cognitive object for both Buber and Zhuangzi. Therefore, to sublate the objectifical cognitive model would mean to recognize the unity between "knowing" and "being", while the other will be claritied in this process.Buber put the "relationship" in a ontological position. The "relationship" has dual implication:one is coexistence; another is the construction of the "between" field. Between field is consistent with the order of getting harmony with people(yu renbe与人')which required by Zhuangzi. However, Buber believes that "meeting" relationship must also be group relationship; While ChuangTsu admits the inescapability of coexistence, but does not agree to establish a tangible, intimate or group "relationship" as a ultimate pointing. For ChuangTsu,the individual’s self-fitness always prior to the "relationship", Sometimes we must forget each other in the lakes and rivers (xiang wang yu jiang bn相忘于江湖)to comply with the fitness.Buber and Zhuangzi set store by the otherness of the other are both aimed at establishing equal relations between man and man. Buber thinks that the equality is an inherent speciality between man and man, while the establishment of real equal relations must be set with "saying" and "responding" which preseted by the responsibility. Zhuangzi does not emphasize the responsibility, but asks that we must treat the other according to the other’s nature, and we should be helping the other realize he or she’s nature at the same time be helping us realize our own nature. This can be seen as the principle of the agent’s natural disposition is to match the patient’s natural disposition (yi tian he tian以天合天)When this principle extends to the social and political field, It becomes a natural order that resorts to govern by doing nothing that goes against nature(wu wei er zhi无为而治)and to realize substantive equality of discriminatory treat. However, that natural order estranges from human order makes the idea of the "politics of difference" unable to obtain a realistic basis. In contrast, Buber does not negate the necessity of "order". It can be envisaged that if the natural order can get a proper integration with the social order, the social order will uphold the spirit of the "natural", thus, the social order will never be the universal principle which outside people and regulates their multifarious living space.
