Sylvia Zhang is a versatile and comprehensive female artist who enjoys a high reputation in Chinese entertainment circle. She developed herself from a host to actress, singer, playwright, director and producer, step by step. Her wealthy family, her intelligence and talents, industry and seriousness, all help to cultivate the special charm of her unique life. Sylvia’s films are also pure and fresh, with various topics and very original perspectives. In her earlier years, there were love artistic film "Favorite", commercial love story "Touched", feature "Siao Yu" produced under the oversea schooling trend,"Live" and "Wakening from a dream" which depicted female development under the time that Hongkong was handed back to China. In late times, there were "20,30,40" which discussed women’s growth, family ethics drama "A good father", and fiction "Dreaming to fly", etc. Sylvia Zhang always makes a great coup so as to maintain herself unforgettable to others. The thesis mainly used research methods as follows:feminism film theory, film criticism, sociology, psychology analysis and cultural research, starting from the feminine narration of Zhang’s films to conduct related analysis and research. The introduction part briefly describes the personal experiences of Sylvia Zhang, which shows the personality factors in her film style, and on this basis, discusses the definition and development of feminine narration. The first chapter mainly deals with the feminine narration methods of Zhang’s films, analysed and argued majorly from male and urban angles. Male perspective in female itself is a new interpretation both in literature and films. Zhang’s films well implemented the unique tactic. Although urban perspective is a wheezy platitude, Zhang’s films expressed its topics or themes rather clearly through her unique taste. The second chapter mainly discussed the different female types shown in Zhang’s films. Compared from the two angles unreasoning love and indulge, I made some analysis. Women with unreasoning love and with indulge are the two permanent topics in film history, but Zhang’s films establish idiosyncratic female images that are no longer the single copy of the old ones. The third chapter mainly researched the value of feminine narration in Zhang’s films, mainly conducted from recognition of traditional family and advocation of equity and equality, trying to illustrate the artistic value of the female director——Sylvia Zhang in the field of feminine narration. The epilog demonstrated the sense and value of Zhang’s films and made some not-so-mature analysis and comments on Sylvia Zhang herself, pointing out there are more space and major virgin space in researching Zhang’s films which are worth further digging and discussion.
