Thematic role of animation is the soul of the development of animation industry, and is also the basis of toy products around animation. As an image carrier, thematic role is virtual spokesperson of the animation business, has a good effect on promoting corporate brand and contains endless cultural value and commercial value.In recent years, china have learned a lot of foreign experience in the successful development of animation, and designed many animated characters. Mature development of all kinds of local image into people’s daily life, in general, have made great progress, but there are also many problems. A lot of animation classification is not perfect, do not have a clear focus for the crowd, in the planning and design stages, rarely gave consideration to the derivatives of peripheral products, the role of image is mostly single form, the shapes are somewhat flattened, the style is mostly focused on younger age groups, and design is relatively simple, the formation of the toy products around most of the relatively rigid single, interesting and entertaining is not strong, the loss of a large number of groups of young people turn to Europe, the United States, Japanese and Korean animation. Lead to foreign toy products around animation occupied most of the domestic market share, affected the rapid development of the domestic animation market. With the development of digital media at home and abroad, the scope of animation research more widely, more and more in-depth, but for the research in toy products around animation have only for product design and adapt to the crowd study, There is no specific role of the image of the cartoon toys around to refine the application of design research. Animation around toys are the most important aspects of the animation industry, the vast majority of benefits from this link, it relates to the healthy operation of the entire animation industry. Cartoon thematic role is the basic elements which give a direct impact on the animation around toys. In this paper, toys and role are considered, and focusing on the research of design and applied of thematic role in animation around toys.This article is divided into five parts to in-depth elaborate on the topic. The first part is the introduction, mainly on the research background, significance, current research and research methods of this thesis at home and abroad. The second chapter is an overview of the animation around toy products, a detailed explanation the concept of classification, functional advantages and features of the animation around toy products, only insight into the animation around toy products, we can have requirements on the detail such as the design of thematic roles and the process material of products. Chapters Ⅲ and IV is a key part of the article, in the third chapter, we analyzes the elements of building the thematic role of image, such like the role of shape, color, costume design, as well as inner character and external style of the role.On the basis of understanding of these details, we can refine, summarize the objective things, translate assertive personality, a wide variety of clothing combinations, unique style of decoration into Visual language which provide a basis for the successful shaping of the animation around toys. In the fourth chapter, Mainly based on the design elements of thematic roles, we put forward how to improve the design method of animation around toys, including how to design the shape, color and dress of the image, and give the design program.In chapter V, based on the analysis of design and application about the thematic role, we proposed a few design inspiration, facing a huge market space and the development of animation technology, we can learn from the traditional, focus on modern multi-angle analysis, and user-friendly design, To form a unique and original animation style and create a new historic opportunity for the Chinese animation industry.
