Under the guide of relevance-theoretic, this paper has probed into the translation strategy and method of Chinese literary culture-loaded words on the Chinese and English version of Turbulence from the prospective of intercultural communication. That is to comparatively analyze the validity and faithfulness of the translation of Chinese literary culture-loaded words in the Chinese and English version of Turbulence on the basis of optimal relevance. Through the analysis on the translation of culture-loaded words, on the one hand, this paper affirms the powerful explanatory of relevance-theoretic on the transferring of’cultural information’in the process of translating; on the other hand, it also certifies relevance-theoretic for offering the new thinking mode and original criticisms on the translation strategy and method of Chinese literary culture-loaded words. This paper puts forward a general view on rendering literary culture-loaded words that is no matter which translation strategies or methods are taken, the translator should choose the utterance or sentence which is easily to produce the optimal relevance on the basis of correct assumption of the target audiences’cognitive environment in order to make the original author’s intention meet the target reader’s expectation. Because it is the human communication and utterance comprehension that is the main focus of relevance theory whose theoretic contribution is to prove that the human being’s mental activities are conducted by relevance, which refers to tend to process and focus the message that are relevant for constituting new semantic representation. And according to relevance-theoretic, translation in essence is one kind of utterance communication incorporating dual dynamic inference processes which aims for realizing optimal relevance. During this process, translators should make an endeavor to communicate contextual effects of the original text on the basis of correct assumption of the target reader’s cognitive environment in order to realize the interpretation resemblance between the original and translation by which attains the optimal relevance between the target reader and original one.
