A Study Of The Artistic Style Of Cool Jazz

Cool jazz is a jazz style became known at the end of1940s. From historically perspective of view, cool jazz is another important jazz style after New Orleans jazz, Swing, Bebop. It focuses on comprehensive integration of those types above rather than the features of Bebop rebel Swing which is seen as a thorough innovator. Moreover, the development of cool jazz also includes some music elements and composing skills of European Classic Music as compared to the features of Bebop and Swing. Thus cool jazz generates an unprecedented sonority and has a profound effect on the jazz evolution.This essay focuses on scores and studies of the features of cool jazz.The main contents of each chapter are:The first chapter introduces the general idea of including its origin and development associated with prominent musicians, and there’s a brief description of the differences between cool jazz and other jazz styles.The second chapter bases on a detail analysis of scores interpreting the artistically expressing means of cool through common harmonies language, melodies shapes, features of rhythm, orchestration from classic cool jazz pieces.In The third chapter, I make some suggestions on the main tips of teaching improvisation with my teaching experience.I would like to introduce some characterizes of cool jazz to some professional students with improvisation ability and to some jazz lovers with theory and practice explanation. And hopefully, this article could help them realize improvisation by taking advantage of common cool jazz music materials as the intention of this article.
