A Study Of The Application Of "superposed Fourth" Chords In Jazz

The traditional harmony structure began with the《Harmony Law》written by Ramo in 1722 and ended in the Romantic period.The harmony structure in the Impressionist period is called Modem Harmony.As a special arrangement structure chord in modem harmony system,"Quartal Harmony"chord plays an important role in the construction of modem harmony sound effect.In the late 1950s,Miles Davis combined the "Quartal Harmony" chord with jazz,and created the music style "mode Jazz" with "Quartal Harmony" chord as the main harmonic material,which led the aesthetic trend of modem harmony and promoted various music styles:free jazz,electro jazz,fusion jazz and so on.Because of its fuzzy function,open sound effect and natural inclusiveness to pentatonic scale,the study of "Quartal Harmony" chord can be regarded as the basis of "localization" of jazz style and"Jazz" of traditional folk music in China.In this paper.as the central content of the research,"four fold" chord,through the study of various types,arrangement structure,applicable rules and sound effects of "Quartal Harmony" chord,summed up the use skills of "Quartal Harmony" chord;through the comparison of its application practice in jazz works and jazz adaptation of Chinese traditional music works,demonstrated "Quartal Harmony" chord This paper discusses the openness,expansibility and limitation of "Quartal Harmony" chord,and explores the application value of"Quartal Harmony" chord in "localization" of jazz and "Jazz" of traditional folk music.
