Procrastination is a delay in getting things done according to plan,which is unnecessary and pointless.With the acceleration of the pace of life,negative effects of procrastination become increasingly apparent.This study examined the mediating effect of rumination between perfectionism and procrastination,and attempted to intervene in the rumination and alleviate procrastination of postgraduates through online group counseling.The research consisted of two parts.The first part was a questionnaire survey on perfectionism,rumination and procrastination of 622 postgraduate graduate students.In this part,the author explored the relationship between perfectionism,rumination and procrastination and used the structural equation model to verify the mediating role of rumination.The second part was a six one hour online cognitive re-evaluation group counseling,which based on the three dimensions of rumination,including symptom rumination,brooding and reflective pondering.Twenty-two postgraduate students with high rumination and high procrastination were selected as subjects from the registration for group activities,with 11 students in the intervention group and 11 students in the control group.The author analyzed the changes of rumination and procrastination before and after the intervention.The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Male postgraduate students'negative perfectionism is significantly higher than that of female postgraduate students.(2)Perfectionism is significantly positively related to rumination,but it's not significantly related to procrastination.Besides,there is a significant positive correlation among negative perfectionism,rumination and procrastination.Positive perfectionism is significantly negatively related to procrastination,but it's not significantly related to ruminant thinking.Rumination is also significantly positively related to procrastination.(3)Positive perfectionism significantly negatively predicted procrastination,while negative perfectionism and rumination significantly positively predicted procrastination(4)Rumination completely mediates the relationship between negative perfectionism and procrastination.(5)The online cognitive re-evaluation group counseling can effectively reduce rumination and improve procrastination for postgraduates.Results implicated the impact and mechanism of perfectionism and rumination on procrastination,and it has certain practical significance for maintaining the mental health of the postgraduate students.
