David Herbert Lawrence,(1885-1930) English novelist, poet andessayist. As one of the most unique and controversial writer, his worksinvolve numerous fields such as novel, poetry, essay and travel notes.This prolific writer brought us many masterpieces which win universalpraise like Lady Chatterleys Lover, Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow,Women in Love etc. However, he is not only a great novelist, but also asplendid poet. In fact, his first creation of literature is poem and it is inthe poem that he firstly expressed his true feelings. Poetry is animportant outlet for Lawrence to write down his life experiences, innercontradiction, personal emotions and also plays an irreplaceable role inhis life. From the beginning to the end of his life, Lawrence createsabout1000poems in25years. The succinct and plain words, variouskinds of images filled with passion and life energy made more and morecritics believed that Lawrence can be called one of the most excellentwriters in the20th century just by his achievements on poetry. As one ofthe representatives of the imagism, Lawrence creates various rich andunique images during the different periods of his creation. This thesismainly focuses on the theme of life and primitive beauty of images inD.H.Lawrence’s nature poems, and has a close reading of the text of hispoems and analyze of his attitudes towards non-human world andhuman world. From this, we could have a clear idea about hisadvocation towards the vitality of the nature.The first chapter in this paper has a general introduction aboutD.H.Lawrence and his poetic works. Then I make a simple literaturereview of those critical articles and research status about his poetry athome and abroad. The second chapter gives us a detailedpresentation of the features and images of Lawrences nature poetryduring his earlier, middle and late period. The earlier poems especially those in Look, we have come through! have the autobiographical colorand are the revelations of Lawrences true sentiments about love; whenit comes to the middle period, after the baptism of war and marriage,Lawrence turned his eyes on the animal-plant field and created theBirds, Beasts and Flowers which wins universal praise and has reachedthe peak in his literature career; In his late years, Lawrence focused hisattention on the balance of life and death. The third chapter examinesthe various kinds of images of Lawrences nature poems and gives us aclear picture of his spiritual experiences and the different reflectionsand comprehensions about nature, animal and plants, death andrebirth. In addition, we also find the hidden ecological consciousness inhis nature poems, and it will function as an instructive and enlighteningagent to our modern society’s ecological crisis. The fourth chapter hasa further exploration of the origin of the rich imagery in Lawrencespoems and discusses all sorts of elements which influenced his ideasand attitudes about nature. The fifth chapter summarizes his views of lifeand nature and the literature values the various images brought, theexpression of pantheism, the ecological significance and the functionsit took on exploring the harmonious unification between human beingsand the nature.
