Prepositions are considered one of the most important parts of Chinese grammar and are relatedclosely to grammatical structures of Chinese. In Chinese, when verbs have direct objects, theysometimes require prepositions, but not always. Due to their mother language, overseas Koreanstudents are likely to make mistakes by adding unnecessary prepositions to certain verbs.The thesis is written from overseas Korean student’s perspective concerningprepositions“Xiang”,“Gen”,“Gei”,“Dui”. In addition, the thesis contains researches of abovementioned prepositions and their collocations, particularly focusing on the grammar rules for a verbbeing used with various prepositions.Chapter one is based on the results of previously carried out researches, explains, and clarifiesthe thesis’main focus and its concept.Chapter two is written from the Chinese traditional grammar point of view, analyzing directpreposition’s traits. It looks into previously mentioned prepositions’ usages individually, as well astheir definition. Also, this chapter deals with the method of identifying various kinds of direct objects,researching their range of usage.Chapter three focuses on the research of direct prepositions with various verbs. This chapterincludes analysis of verbs that must be followed by direct prepositions.Chapter four concentrates on verbs that do not always require prepositions, and research on therule of adding and not adding prepositions based on different aspects of a language.Chapter five deals with the analysis of Chinese prepositions and by Korean adverb particle“”comparing and contrasting differences in expressions. Asurvey was conducted among overseasKorean students to identify the prepositional error. This chapter is also consisted of strategic teachingmethods that derived from the statistics and data gathered from the survey.Chapter six concludes the thesis, summarizing all the results from various researches in otherchapters on prepositions, direct objects, and verbs.
