| German composer, music critic Robert Schumann (Robert Schumann,1810-1856) is one of the central figures of the Romantic, and his creation called a model of romantic musicians. Schumann composed a lot of piano music and songs, these two genres form the principal part of his creation, and have been widely praised. Genoveva is the only opera of his creation, Schumann put a lot of energy into it, and it is the very important part which cannot be ignored.This thesis takes the overture and five vocal works for musicological analysis. Firstly, the preface part summarizes the research significance and current status of Genoveva, and introduce the mainly research content and methods. In order to analyze Genoveva, in chapter1, this thesis introduced the Schumann’s life and the Genoveva’s story.The second chapter is the center part of this thesis, in order to understand the creation and music features of Genoveva more clearly, this article analyzed the overture and five vocal works of the opera from its music theme, harmony, mode, rhythm, musical form and so on. The first section analysed the overture of the opera. The second section analysed four aria and recitative. The third section analysed a duet of Genoveva and Golo. Finally summary the Genoveva’s characteristic of music.The third chapter is the social and historical analysis. This chapter first analyzed social history environment, then analyzed the aesthetic tendencies of Schumann, finally introduces the acceptance of Genoveva, and analyzed the causes.Through analysis we conclude that, although there are some defects, but Genoveva can be called a true German opera, in which the music reflects the Schumann’s creative genius, with a high artistic level. In the era which the opera house of German occupied by the French and Italian opera, The creation of Genoveva is necessary for the Schumann himself and the German opera, and thus has important artistic value and historical significance. |
