This report presents the author’s whole process of translating the article "A Model of Labor Supply, Household Production, and Marriage". This article was written by Shoshana Grossbard-Shechtman from San Diego State University and Columbia University. Based on theories and research models of sociology and economics, this article is an analysis of labor supply, household production and marriage. This report shows clearly the process of the author’s translation, including task description, translation plan, translation procedure and feedbacks on translation. In translation, the guiding theory of the author is Skopos theory, which highlights the "purposes" of translation. For the "purposes" of translation determine the translation strategies, the strategies applied in the author’s translation mainly include:literal translation, free translation, synonymous substitution, adaptation etc. Finally, based on the author’s own translation experience and two-year study in Master of Translation and Interpreting Program (referred to as MTI) in Shandong University, the author gives some suggestions on how to become a professional translator. |
